Seattle Sounders Clint Dempsey has been named the Player of the Week in the MLS following his two-goal game against Portland last weekend.

Dempsey  led Seattle to its third-consecutive win Sunday in front of 53,302 fans at CenturyLink Field. After a scoreless first half, Dempsey gave the home side a 1-0 advantage with a penalty-kick in the 61st minute, burying his attempt past Timbers keeper Jack Gleeson after Cristian Roldan was fouled making a run inside the area.

Dempsey netted his second score in the 80th minute, receiving a pass from Roldan before comfortably slotting a smooth shot past the Portland netminder's far post -  his eighth of the season. Dempsey is tied with Jordan Morris for the team lead in scoring. Dempsey also has eight goals against the Timbers in seven matches, the most scored by a Sounders player versus any single MLS opponent.

Unbeaten in four matches under Interim Head Coach Brian Schmetzer, the Rave Green now prepare for two road matches within a week, first traveling to face the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Seattle then readies for its final regular season matchup against the Timbers on Sunday at Providence Park. Kickoff for that tilt is slated for 2:00 p.m., with ESPN televising the match nationally.
