Smoak and Ackley Power Mariners Past Angels

Felix Hernandez won his 5th opener as he lead the Seattle Mariners past the Los Angeles Angels last night in Anaheim 10-3.  Hernandez struck out 11, gave up four hits and only two earned runs to give the Mariners their 8th straight Opening Day win.  That's the  longest streak in the Majors since the Reds won nine in a row from 1983-91. Not coincidentally, Hernandez has started seven of those games and is 5-0 with a 1.52 ERA after notching Monday's win.

Justin Smoak had a double and a three-run homer, Dustin Ackley went two for for with a bases clearing three-run triple. Abraham Almonte and Robinson Cano each added two hits.  Almonte hit a tie-breaking RBI double in the seventh inning .

Mike Trout hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Albert Pujols had a run-scoring double for the Angels, who had won nine of 10 on opening day, including five straight.

The Mariners play the Angels tonight in game two of the three-game series. Erasmo Ramirez goes for Seattle. CJ Wilson goes for Los Angeles.
