WENATCHEE, Wash. – In a game that took almost four hours and saw 18 runs cross the plate on 31 hits, the Yakima Valley Pippins prevailed over the Wenatchee Applesox Wednesday night by a score of 10-8.

Early on, it seemed the Pippins (11-6) could do no wrong. They scored five runs over the first three innings against Wenatchee starter Zach Haggett to take a 5-0 lead. But after three quick innings to start the game, Pippins starter Jens Jensen struggled in the 4th. The Applesox (5-9) put up five runs and chased Jensen from the ballgame to pull even at 5-5. Wenatchee took a 6-5 lead on a sacrifice fly in the 5th.

That was only the beginning of the scoring, though. Mitch Skaggs delivered a two-out RBI double in the 6th to re-tie the game at 6-6. Then in the bottom half of the frame, reliever Kelly Fitzpatrick worked out of a bases-loaded jam to keep the game tied.

The Pippins took the lead for good in the 7th, striking for four more runs on a two-run double from Alex Guenette and a two-run single from Skaggs.

After the Applesox scored twice in the 7th to make it 10-8, the Pippins bullpen closed out Wenatchee the rest of the way, including the sixth save from Wyatt Mills, who ties Nick Kern (2014) for most saves in Pippins history.

Skaggs went 4-5 with 4 RBI and fell a home run shy of the cycle. Guenette, Tyler Mildenberg and Jace Van De Brake each had three hits in the win. The Pippins tallied 19 hits in total, tying the franchise record for most hits in a single game (also July 10, 2014 at Bend).

The Pippins have won all three of their road series so far this season and will look for their first sweep away from home Thursday at 7:05 pm. Former Applesox pitcher Mitch Yada is scheduled to start for the Pippins.
