A Yakima Valley Pippin has been named the West Coast League Player of the Week for the second time this season, the West Coast League and the Pippins have announced.

Left-handed outfielder Vince Fernandez -- who's batting .500 with six doubles, a triple, a homer, 12 RBI and who's scored nine runs -- is the second Pippin to earn the honor. The first was Reed Garrett, who took the honor in the first week of the season.

Fernandez, who will be a sophomore at UC Riverside next year, is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, going 15-29 Monday through Sunday. His two-run double tied Sunday night's game against the Medford Rogues.

Pippins pitcher Nick Kern was also considered for this week's honor, according to a news release from the team.
