YAKIMA, WA - Trevor Achenbach’s (Oklahoma Wesleyan) 3-run triple in the 3rd inning proved to be enough as the Yakima Valley Pippins defeated the Gresham GreyWolves, 8-2, Tuesday night at Yakima County Stadium.

Cameron Haskell (UC Riverside) followed up that triple with an RBI single on the very next pitch, making it 6-2 in favor of the Pippins. Haskell started his night with an RBI sacrifice fly in the 2nd innings, giving the Pippins (13-10) an early 1-0 lead.

Yakima native Jens Jensen (Central Washington) earned his second win pitching six innings, allowing two runs on nine hits, working himself in and out of trouble all night. The Pippins turned three double plays for Jensen, committing zero errors, on the first $2 Tuesday of the year.

Drake Atlee (Cal State Northridge) extended his scoreless streak to 5.1 innings after tossing two scoreless frames in relief. Connor Zwetsch (Oregon) finished out the 9th inning with a 1-2-3 frame, improving the Pippins final record to 4-2 against the Gresham GreyWolves this season.

Jace VanDeBrake (Gonzaga) added two RBI in the winning effort, while Freddy Smith (Cal State Northridge) posted his first multi-hit game. Branson Trube (Gonzaga) collected an RBI single in the 6th inning and Christian Koss (UC Irvine) scored twice hitting out of the No. 9 spot in the lineup.

Following Wednesday’s scheduled off day, the Yakima Valley Pippins return to action Thursday night in Walla Walla for a three game series vs. the Sweets. Fans to listen to all the action live on 1460 ESPN Yakima, the official home for Pippins Baseball.
