The Yakima Valley Pippins struck swiftly in their first meeting with the Bend Elks, putting three runs on the scoreboard in the first two innings en route to a 15-7 win on the road Thursday night.

Yakima's Reed Martinez got a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Justin Jacobs followed up with a two-run single and Shawn Wardian extended his hitting streak to 14 straight games.

In the second, another home run by Alex Guenette made it 4-0 Pippins.

The Pippins shifted into overdrive in the fourth, adding seven more runs and piling up an 11-0 lead.

The Elks answered with six runs in their half of the fourth, and the two teams traded runs in the fifth. In the sixth, Vince Fernandez hit a two-run homer and Ryan Yamane get an RBI on a sacrifice fly to complete the Pippins' scoring.

Bend got their final three runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Thursday's win gives the Pippins -- who are 18-10 in West Coast League play -- a four-game win streak as they go for their seventh series win. They play a second game with the Elks tonight at 6:35. Pregame coverage begins at 6:25 on 1460 ESPN Yakima.
