M’s Clubbed By Cubs, Then Drubbed By Nature
In Little League, the Mercy Rule would have ended the game sooner. Mother Nature stepped in to stop the bleeding and embarrassment for the Seattle Mariners as they were lambasted 12-1 by the Chicago Cubs at the Friendly Confines in Wrigley Field after completing just six and a half innings.
The M's, however, would not be let off the hook that easily. After a substantial rain delay, the game resumed with each team scoring a run.
In their first trip to the north side since 2007, Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma could only make it through three innings while allowing five earned runs including a two-run round-tripper to Jason Heyward.
The Seattle relief corps only added gasoline to the fire with Nathan Karn getting touched for another five earnies in just a pair of innings of labor.
Game two of the three-game interleague tilt is set for tomorrow morning with first pitch at 11:00 a.m. Pacific time.
