Meat Exports Continue to Excel, Fire Safety During Summer

According to the U.S. Meat Export Federation, export volumes for pork and beef exceeded last year’s totals in May.
The May export value for pork remained in the $600 million range for the third month in a row and beef exports increased 15 percent to $589 million.
USMEF President and CEO Philip Seng says the federation has been focused on increasing overall pork consumption in Mexico. Those efforts have paid off in the form of strong, sustained demand as Mexico posted an all-time value record for U.S. pork of $138.8 million in May.
Fire danger levels in many areas of the Northwest are increasing.
Hot, dry weather has been promoting officials to increase the alerts and urge caution especially when visiting parks and forested areas. Campers are urged to use extreme caution with campfires and observe all warnings and postings.
Several wildfires are in progress in the Northwest but so far none have been too severe.
