CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Austin McBroom scored a career-high 35 points and Eastern Washington beat North Dakota 95-85 on Thursday night to take over sole possession of third place in the Big Sky Conference.

McBroom was 9 of 17 from the floor, 5 of 8 from the arc and made 12 of 14 free throws for the Eagles (14-10, 8-4), who won their fifth straight.

Venky Jois added 24 points on 9-of-9 shooting.

McBroom scored 20 points in the first half when the Eagles took a 44-34 lead. The Hawks (12-11, 7-5) got within four early in the second half but an 18-5 run that included 10 points from Vois put EWU up 17. North Dakota cut it to seven with 38 seconds remaining but eight free throws, six by McBroom, ensured the win.

Quinton Hooker led North Dakota with 20 points while Drick Bernstine had 10 rebounds with his 14 points.
