Mariners’ Montero Turns Up On Baseball’s Suspended List

The Mariners catcher, now in the minor leagues, was one on a list of twelve players suspended by major League Baseball in the Biogenesis performance enhancing drug scandal.

Montero has accepted the punishment handed out by Major League Baseball based on findings in its investigation of the Biogenesis anti-aging clinic in Coral Gables, Fla. More than likely it would be a 50 game suspension, but actual details have not been announced.

Montero was traded to Seattle by the New York Yankees for pitcher Michael Pineda in 2012. He is currently playing with the Mariners AAA team in Tacoma. Originally a catcher, Montero has been a designated hitter and is learning to play first base with the Rainiers.
