Los Angeles Considering GMO Law, USDA has Website with Climate Info
- With both Oregon and Colorado considering GMO labeling now the Los Angeles City Council has approved a proposal to ask the City Attorney’s office to draft a measure to make the city GMO free.
The proposal, largely supported by council member Paul Koretz, would ban the sale and planting of any genetically modified seeds within the city boundaries.
The lone vote in opposition was because the council member believed it was beyond the city’s scope of authority.
- USDA has launched a new website to serve as a portal for climate information.
USDA targeted the site towards farmers, ranchers, forest landowners and others to find, “useful, practical information to help cope with the challenges and stressors caused by a changing climate.”
The website includes resources related to drought, fire risk, pest and diseases, climate variability and heat stress, among other topics.
Each region of the U.S. has its own dedicated hub on the website. Go to climatehubs.oce.usda.gov.
