Legendary Husky basketball player Bob Houbregs, who led the team to its only Final Four appearance in 1953, has died at the age of 82 according to a UW spokesperson.

Houbregs attended UW from 1949 to 1953 and was an All-American in each or his last two years with the Huskies. His senior season, Houbregs was named the NCAA Player of the Year and was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 34.8 points-per-game in the tournament.

After his career at UW, Houbregs was selected No. 2 overall by the Milwaukee Hawks in the 1953 NBA Draft and played with four teams in his five-year career averaging 9.3 points-per-game. Following his playing career, Houbregs spent four years at the general manager of the Seattle SuperSonics.

Houbregs No. 25 jersey is just one of two retired-numbers hanging from the rafters in Alaska Airlines Arena.
