Land O’ Lakes Acquires Biotechnology Company; Vote Expected on GMO Standards
Yet another Ag acquisition.Land O’Lakes acquires California biotechnology company Ceres for $17.2 million. Ceres, develops seeds designed to increase crop productivity and food quality. It will become part of the Land O'Lakes group to complement its existing forage development wing, Forage Genetics International.
In a move that could impact Ag equipment and shipping by requiring new stringent domestic regulations on fuel efficiency and emission standards for heavy –duty vehicles President Obama, Canada's Prime Minister and Mexico’s President last week in Ottawa, created a partnership focused on 50 percent more clean power by 2025.
Finally, more than 1000 groups including national and state farm organizations are urging House leaders to pass legislation for national disclosure standards for GMO ingredients. Nearly 80 groups are against the legislation, led by the Center for Food Safety and Food and Water Watch, The House is expected to vote this week then the bill will go to President Obama to be signed.
