Kimberlee Souza lined the first pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning over the left center-field wall to give Washington a 4-3 victory Thursday in the opening game of the Women's College World Series.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Washington (44-15) rallied when Victoria Hayward lined a ball that slid under right fielder Brooke Thomason's glove for a triple. Hooch Fagaly's sacrifice squeeze scored Hayward to send the game to extra innings.

The home run was Souza's eighth of the season. Washington will face Tennessee on Friday. The Lady Vols beat Florida 9-2. Nebraska (45-15) will play Florida in an elimination game Saturday.
