A seventh round pick in 2009, Oregon's Nick Reed is putting football behind him in order to pilot aircraft for the United State's Air Force.

Seahawks Insider Clare Farnsworth wrote on Wednesday:

Reed was released by the Seahawks in 2010 and was out of the league that season. He then spent time with the Bears (2011), Buccaneers (2011-12) and Vikings (2012). His career totals: 17 tackles and one sack.

“I started this process after the Seahawks cut me when I got hurt,” Reed said. “I was trying out for a bunch of teams – I think I went to 10 teams in 2010 – and I didn’t get picked up until the Bears signed me in 2011. So I kind of saw the writing was on the wall and I started this process. It’s something I always wanted to do, and it’s a long process to be a pilot.”
