LAS VEGAS (AP) — After 11 years at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the Pac-12 tournament is headed to the bright lights of The Strip. Starting Wednesday, the Pac-12 tournament will be played at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, a venue mostly used for boxing events.Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott pushed for the move, believing the allure of Las Vegas would draw more fans to the tournament. The Grand Garden also figures to be more quaint than the cavernous Staples Center, where the sight of empty seats on TV was common in past tournaments, particularly after UCLA was eliminated. And with the Mountain West, West Coast and Western Athletic conferences all playing in town this week, Las Vegas has become a basketball mecca.
