PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The daughter of former Democratic presidential candidate and Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee has been selected to represent the United States in Olympic sailing.

Louisa Chafee will compete on a two-person catamaran with Bora Gulari, the U.S. Sailing Rolex Yachtsman of the Year. The 24-year-old Chafee was a three-time All-American at Brown University.

Chafee said Thursday her father is thrilled and will be in Rio de Janeiro to cheer her on.

Chafee says she isn't concerned about the severe pollution in Rio's waterways and is focused on training and bringing home a medal. She says the team medical staff has been closely watching the situation, and she has faith that the U.S. will look out for its athletes.
