County to Dedicate Air Show to Native Son Arnold Palmer

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania county plans to dedicate its air show to native son Arnold Palmer.

The gold legend was chairman of the Westmoreland County Airport Authority when he died Sept. 25 at age 87.

The authority runs the Westmoreland County airport that was renamed for Palmer in 1999.

Now, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports the authority's annual air show will be dedicated to Palmer.

Although Palmer was best known as a champion golfer, he was also an accomplished pilot who remained active with the airport in Unity Township, which borders his hometown of Latrobe, about 40 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Palmer served with the authority from 1970 to 1984, then returned to its board in 1996.

The air show June 24-25 will feature the Navy's Blue Angels precision fighter jet team.
