As they warned earlier, city officials have issued a "snow alert" for Yakima, which means motorists must remove their vehicles from designated snow routes by 8 tonight (Dec. 21) or risk having their cars towed away.
The purpose of the alert is to help snowplow crews clear the snow routes, most of which are in downtown areas. Snow accumulations of 3 inches trigger the alerts.
Cars can be moved to any streets not posted as snow routes. But vehicles left in the designated areas can be towed, and owners can face fines of up to $50 per violation, city officials remind.
