• More than 75,000-pounds of frozen, fully-cooked chicken nugget products are being recalled by a Tyson Foods plant according to USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

    Tyson five-pound bags of fully cooked white meat nuggets with a best if used by date of January 26, 2015 or February 16, 2015 are part of that recall. Also 20-pound bulk packs of Spare Time Fully Cooked Nugget-Shaped Chicken Breast Pattie Fritters with Rib Meat are part of the recall.

  • USDA Agricultural Research Service scientists have found a gene in ancient grasses that could help make wheat more resistant to Ug99, a type of stem rust that constantly evolves.

    While this fungus has not been found in the U.S., it is considered a potential threat to up to 90 percent of the world’s wheat. Scientists are studying a diverse group of grasses including einkorn wheat, emmer wheat and goatgrass.
