Bicycles and a bike path are a vital part of the Downtown Master Plan that city officials are working on.

Axel Doulph, co-owner of Yakima's Revolution Cycles on Fruitvale Blvd, says if more safe pathways were constructed in Yakima more people might park the car and pedal to work.

“There are few bicycle lanes in the area ... especially those that bring people downtown. If more safe lanes were constructed yeah, more people would probably feel comfortable to ride bikes.”

Doulph says currently the cycling community in Yakima is small and many people ride mountain bikes, But if the city puts an emphasis on safe bicycle lanes around town more people may choose peddling over commuting in the car.
