After four straight one-run games, the Yakima Valley Pippins found themselves on the wrong side of a lopsided loss on Wednesday, falling 12-3 at the hands of the Bend Elks.

The Elks (30-8) built a 4-0 lead after four innings, but the Pippins (20-18) made things interesting in the 6th. Yakima Valley scored three runs to close within a run at 4-3. Reid Martinez and David Becker had RBI doubles in the frame and AJ Sawyer brought in a run on a sacrifice fly.

However, Bend blew things open in the 7th, scoring seven times to take an 11-3 lead. Only one of the seven runs was earned, largely due to a season-high six Pippins errors. Another unearned run scored in the 8th to finish off the scoring onslaught.

With the loss, the Pippins have dropped their first two games in a series for the first time this season and will look to avoid their first sweep of the season in the series finale Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
